Letter From The Editor

Metro-010116-editorThis time of year is inherently reflective. We contemplate the previous year and take stock of how we did — what went well, what we need to improve upon and what we want to accomplish moving ahead.

We’re feeling especially reflective this week as we met with popular local ska/rock-steady band Go Jimmy Go. It’s hard to believe that 2016 marks 20 years for Go Jimmy Go. And it’s harder to believe that on Jan. 16, they’re playing their final show.

To me, Go Jimmy Go has always represented a sort of bridge in the local music scene. When I was a teenager going to their shows in the early-mid 2000s, I found that they managed to attract fans of just about every genre. (I, for one, am not typically a fan of reggae music, but their second album, Soul Arrival, was a permanent fixture in my CD player.) And it’s easy to see why — their songs are upbeat and energetic, yet with enough complexity to transcend (or at least span) genres. Plus, their live performances are always a good time.

Read what the band has to say about their prolific run and what to expect at their farewell show.

We talk a lot in this issue about New Year’s resolutions — what we like and don’t like about them and what we can do to keep them. If you need help keeping yours, read Christa Wittmier’s latest — she’s got a couple of apps that are designed to facilitate goal-setting and accountability.
