Honolulu Museum of Art is in the midst of an extensive showcase of Islamic culture and art, all part of Doris Duke’s Shangri La: Architecture, Landscape and Islamic Art. And one component of the campaign is Shahnameh: The Epic of the Persian Kings.

The museum’s resident artist, Iranian filmmaker and graphic designer Hamid Rahmanian, illustrated key scenes from the Persian epic Shahnameh, with an eye on updating them for modern readers.

The exhibit runs until July 26.
