More Superheroes, More CGI

‘BATMAN V SUPERMAN’ TRAILER REVIEW BY METRO CREW

After Superman (Henry Cavill) finished his battle against General Zod, many people are unsure of his intentions, questioning whether he’s good or evil. Among them is Batman (Ben Affleck), who takes it upon himself to squash any potential threat Superman may pose. But with a new threat arising, they’ll have to find a way to work together.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice plays in wide release March 25.

PAIGE: Zack Snyder as a director is really hit-or-miss, but goddamn the man can make a trailer. Watching this trailer is like pornography. Even if I know for every Watch-men he produces two Sucker Punch bombs, this trailer makes me get all hysterical inside. IT LOOKS SO COOL, I want to shout, as I run directly through a wall, crying.

CHRISTINA: I feel like this movie was just a ploy to have a lot of explosions go off. What is the plot here? I don’t really understand why they are fighting.

JAMES: I think Watchmen was Zack Snyder’s best movie. It was about superheroes in a way that no other superhero movies were. It still stands alone. I don’t think he’ll ever get close to that one.

NICOLE: I am more a fan of Batman than Superman. Only because being Batman could somewhat be plausible. I just need to get really rich.

PAIGE: I legit believe Ben Affleck could be Batman.

CHRISTINA: I feel like this comes so soon after the Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale Batman series — and no one will ever be a better Batman, ever.

JAIMIE: I realized something: I have seen A LOT of Ben Affleck movies. Somehow, despite my deepest disdain for the man, I have seen more movies of his than I can count on both hands. How. Even. It changes nothing, though. I am still not a fan. Still, I plan on watching this movie and hopefully in theaters. Could Zack Snyder possibly do Batman better than Christopher Nolan? Doubtful. Could Ben Affleck be more compelling and interesting in the black suit than Christian Bale? Ha. Hahahaha. HAHA. Jury is out on that one.

PAIGE: This Batman takes a lot of influence from the Arkham games, which is reflected in his physical fighting style (much different than what Christian Bale did) and his jaded attitude. As much praise as Bale gets for his role, his films were dominated by amazing villains and so I don’t recall his specific performance being particularly amazing. We remember Heath Ledger’s Joker or Tom Hardy’s Bane, not so much anything Bale did in particular. And so I am willing to see what a character-centric Batman can do, particularly an older one with the extended Bat family network already established, which was noticeably missing in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy.

NICOLE: I’ll be doing a lot of staring at Superman because Henry Cavill is freaking gorgeous. I will say that Ben Affleck is appropriate for Batman because he’s a mouth-breather, and the Batmans before him just kind of gave off that same heavy, mouth-breatherish vibe.

PAIGE: I can also pretty much guarantee that love or hate, I’ll end up seeing this film twice in theaters. This is the era of the superhero film, and I’ve got to milk it before things inevitably die, as everything I love does.

JAMES: For the most part, I’ve checked out of this genre. More often than not, CGI is way too smart and fast for the actors or directors to keep up with. The footage is shot, only to have the effects team runs circles around it. It’s like watching someone project race car footage behind a withdrawn tortoise, then saying, “Look at him go!”
