Letter From The Editor

During my teenage years, I went through a phase where I pretty much wouldn’t wear anything that didn’t come from Goodwill. For a 15-year-old with no money, the thrift store was like a shopping mecca — a seemingly endless collection of clothes, all for very cheap.

But despite my longtime patronage, I didn’t realize that in addition to its stores, Goodwill also is a nonprofit organization that helps connect people with jobs. In a couple of weeks, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii hosts its annual Goodwill Goes GLAM! event — where you can find a vast selection of the best items to come through its retail locations. See the full story on Page 10.

Because Fourth of July falls on a Saturday this week, that means it’s a long weekend! Guest contributing columnist Kait Hanson shares three of her own drink recipes for some tasty cocktails that come in red, white and blue (Page 16).

And if you’re still looking for things to do for the holiday, check out our On The Grid events listings on Page 4. There’s a lot going on this week — and plenty of festive fun for the Fourth.

Speaking of which, snap an Instagram photo of however you choose to celebrate and share it with us in our Metrogram section. Find out how on Page 23.
