Letter From The Editor

Metro-Christina-MugDuring the first week of the new year, everyone is on a full-blown new habits kick.

We’ve all noticed it: The line into your yoga class gets longer. Your gym gets more crowded. I use this as yet another excuse to avoid my running trails.

And while all of those new habits are good and healthy, newer isn’t always better. That’s something I gained a little insight on while chatting with Amber Chesebro of Salty Girl Jewelry for this week’s feature story on Page 10. Her company has seen plenty of growth in the last year. But when talking about resolutions for the new year, Chesebro is more interested in returning to some of her old habits. Even during other parts of the year, I think we as a society have the tendency to put a high premium on newness. But what I got out of my conversation with Chesebro is that sometimes we may need to return to what has been effective in the past.

Music columnist Roger Bong also explores some treasures from the past in this week’s issue. On Page 17, he shares an exciting new scoop on an old song.

Whatever your resolution is, check out our SuperTech column on page 7, where Christa Wittmier discusses an interesting website that could help you keep those New Year’s promises.

This typically also is the time of year when the post-holiday blues may begin to set in. In our events calendar on Page 4, we’ve rounded up some of the week’s most exciting events so you can keep those blues at bay.
