Letter from the Editor

Metro-Christina-MugI’m sure I’ve written here about how Honolulu constantly is filled with things to do. But I’ll admit, even with everything going on around here, I end up doing, mostly, the same things over and over again. I frequent the same bars, eat at the same restaurants and attend the same events every year.

On the one hand, if you have a good thing, why mess with it? But on the other hand, having new experiences is important, too.

One thing I wasn’t really aware of, for instance, is a huge annual event: Kawaii Kon. This year’s Kon is coming up at the end of the month, so staff writer Paige Takeya chats with the organizers and gives us a sneak peak for our feature story on Page 12. Also with the story — and on the cover — you can check out illustrations by Nicholas Smith, who creates Metro‘s Ninja-Man comics each week.

It looks like Anton Glamb is after new experiences, too, and on Page 8, he visits an art event that aims to bring all ages together.

On Page 10, Nicole Kato takes us inside local law firm Ashford & Wriston’s impressive new office space. (Seriously, check out these photos — I wish my house looked like that.)

And if you’re looking for something that will take you out of your typical routines, Jaimie Kim has rounded up a selection of events happening this week on Page 6.
