Here’s a tip: Go to Sushi King after 9 p.m., and you can take advantage of its late-night specials, including its Jumbo Platters. You get your choice of entrée, alongside soup, salad, and your choice of a six-piece California Roll, a three-piece Cone Sushi or a six-piece Spicy Tuna. There are several entrees to choose from, including Chicken Teriyaki, Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, and Eel Teriyaki. We went with the Salmon Katsu and have no regrets — it was a lightly breaded, flavorful cutlet sans the excess grease that katsu can sometimes have.

Highway Inn has got a lot of options, but you really can’t go wrong with its combo plates. You get your choice of entrée — we went with the Chicken Lau Lau — alongside poi or rice, sweet potato, haupia and your choice of lomi salmon, potato or mac salad, or Nalo greens. Our lau lau was, in a word, perfect. The chicken was tender, the ratio of chicken to leaves was even, and it was not overly salty. We can’t wait to return for more. The price is good —all this was just $15.75 for dinner — but be warned that it is still a lot of food. Come very hungry.
