Metro has talked about Up Roll Café’s sushi burritos before, and we honestly weren’t huge fans. But a year has passed, and we are now big devotees of Up Roll’s … bowls, particularly the free toppings of fried garlic and onions. Mmmm. On one of our recent quests for fishy joy, we saw Up Roll’s evening specials included an Ahi Shooter — so we had to bite. The little cup of ahi, takuwan, cucumber, nori, dashi broth and masago was deceptively spicy but refreshing, the perfect little appetizer to our big bowl of veggies and fish.

Pasta is such a … safe food. That is, unless you naively choose cheese-based pasta, like we did. Oh gosh. It was so rich. So full of cheese, everywhere you go, overpowering all else, including the greens, asparagus, mushrooms and prosciutto. The thick sauce almost made us too full to eat a parfait and seven breads, but we endured because some things in life are just more important than dying of cheese. Anyway, we would recommend sticking to a tomato-based pasta or basically anything other than this, unless you really, really love cheese.
