Real talk: We’re going to preface this by saying that Coffee or Tea? probably has the best milk tea on the island. But sometimes — on some rare, rare occasion — you may find yourself at this McCully Shopping Center staple and not be in the mood for bubble tea. In that case, the next best thing is the second option on the shaved ice menu, which comes laden with every kind of dessert-ready caffeine available: coffee ice cream, coffee jelly and tea jelly, with some whipped cream and brown-sugar syrup to top it all off.

It’s a little out of the way for the average town-based foodie, but Spicy Ahi & BBQ is worth the drive out to Pearl City. Nobody can beat its spicy ahi — pulverized but never mushy, with just the right mixture of creamy mayo and heat. You can get it served with just about anything you want — including unagi, tonkatsu and udon, even — but we like to keep it simple with some salmon sashimi on the side. If you’d prefer to stick to the BBQ side of Spicy Ahi & BBQ, we recommend the kalbi or mochiko chicken. Portions are pretty big here: You’ll definitely be going home with leftovers.
