MOMIJI CHIRASHI SET
MICHINOKU RESTAURANT
835 Keeaumoku St., Honolulu
Phone number (808) 942-1414

Tucked away in a small shopping plaza off of Keeaumoku, this Japanese eatery is easy to miss, but well … don’t. With a range of donburi, teishoku (meal set) and a sushi bar, there’ll be something to satisfy your cravings. To get a little bit of a lot of different things, we went for the Momiji Chirashi Set, which is stocked full of hamachi, shrimp, ahi, tamago, roe and more. Plus, it’s served with miso soup, salad, chawanmushi and tsukemono.

MISO-HONEY GLAZED BUTTERFISH
MW RESTAURANT
1538 Kapiolani Blvd. #107, Honolulu
Phone number (808) 955-6505
website mwrestaurant.com

This may well be the most Korean-flavored butterfish you can get outside of an actual Korean restaurant. In typical MW style, the fish is savory and melts away in your mouth, with nary a bone in sight. But its accompaniments are like very high-class banchan — baby bok choi, taegu and watercress. It’s unorthodox, but it still tastes pretty darn good. The portion is on the smaller side, but hey, it’s OK. At MW Restaurant, it’s always a good idea to save room for dessert. The Coconut Cake is a must-have.
