Kamehameha Schools currently is seeking artists to contribute commissioned works of art for SALT at Our Kakaako.

SALT, which is set to open late this year, is a specialty retail center that will include various shops, restaurants, a central plaza and mixed-use space. In designing SALT, Kamehameha Schools seeks to incorporate 12 original works of art.

“We want every courtyard, nook and alley at SALT to be interesting and discoverable. The art, architecture and industry will combine to tell the story of what was here before us and also be a space to create new stories, too,” stated Kamehameha Schools director of development Paul Kay in a release.

Pieces should take the area’s culture and history into consideration. Completed works will be used to decorate walls, stairways, alleys and walkways throughout the center. Artwork submitted can include murals, plant walls, neon lighting, digital projection and metal work.

In order to qualify for participation, artists must provide sample images of their work, along with a resume and letter of interest. For more information, visit ourkakaako.com/salt. Preliminary proposals are due April 29. Artists will be selected in June, and installations will begin in August.
