Katie Vevoda and Lauren Layton (also pictured here), both academic advisors in Las Vegas, were in town recently for a conference. But they still made sure they had time to play, too. We caught up with them while they were strolling through Ward Village.

“It was a little cold, so I wanted to go with jeans and a tank top,” says Vevoda, 26.

“This is my first time in Hawaii, and I was just excited to explore the town in a very casual, relaxed outfit,” says Layton, 28. “We are from Las Vegas, where anytime you go anywhere, you feel like you have to dress to the nines.

So this morning, I just threw on a nice, comfortable outfit. But I always like to jazz it up with jewels.”

Her favorite piece of jewelry is her Kate Spade bracelet, which her best friend gave her when Layton was her maid of honor. It’s engraved with phrases like “two of a kind” and “best friends forever.”
