Letter From The Editor

This week, our social media manager Nicole Kato had the opportunity to chat with internationally known comedienne Margaret Cho, who’s visiting the Islands for an upcoming show. Cho has made a name for herself as a vulgar, outspoken performer — so Nicole was looking forward to a wild conversation.

But, we came to find out something even more interesting. That over-the-top personality? Cho says it’s all a construct she’s crafted over the years. In reality, she says she’s actually really shy — and that comedy was a way to overcome a number of traumas in her childhood and adolescence. (Also, I didn’t know until recently that Cho also is a musician. I highly recommend checking out the videos for Hey Big Dog and, my personal favorite, Eat S#!& and Die. You won’t be sorry.)

You can learn more about Cho and her show at the Blaisdell here.

During Nicole’s interview with Cho, they chatted quite a bit about Cho’s Korean heritage. And talking about that in the office later made Jaimie Kim want some Korean food, so she headed over to Red Stand to dine on some kimbap and eat ramen out of the lid of a pot in true K-drama fashion. See what she has to say about the experience.

This week also marks the final photo in an ongoing series by photographer Mark Magno. He’s brought us a beautiful collection of landscape shots and portraits. If you missed any of them, you can view them all here.
