We admit that there is nothing particularly innovative about the selection of eggs Benedicts that you find at Bogart’s Café, but they do manage to perfect the formula with poached eggs that are not too runny and a light Hollandaise sauce that is not overly creamy. We went with avocado and spinach, but you also can choose ham, asparagus, crab cakes or lox. Protip: Get a Benedict and an acai bowl to split with a friend.

SOUFFLÉ OMELET WITH RISOTTO

We were drawn to this dish in concept — what is a soufflé omelet, we wondered. Well, some things are better left to the imagination. The flavor of the eggs was traded in for something too light and too airy. The risotto was fine but nothing notable. We’re a fan of this little eatery as a whole — it’s filled with produce from local farms, and the interior is cozy and chic — but we’d much rather opt for its smoothies, sandwiches or salads instead.

Pizza’s an easy love. There’s no going wrong. Frozen, a day old, or discovered under your sofa mattress the day after — it’s all the same kind of goodness, right? Well, if you’d grown up with this particular chain’s brand of pizza at its original location in Kalaheo, Kauai, letting it permeate your formative years with a certain expectation in regard to the crust’s pillowy thickness, lasagna-like cheese to sauce ratio, and the medley of herbal aromatics instantly recognized upon entry, then yes, pizza can go wrong, paling in comparison. When it’s done right, like the Super Pizza at Brick Oven, it’ll make you want to name your kids Pepperoni and Cheese.
