Simple Summer-Time Cocktail

During the summer months, I turn to drinks that are refreshing. But the problem is that, too often, such drinks are packed with sugar, which leaves me with a massive headache. When I was talking to a friend about this, she told me she combats the issue by using flavored waters instead of sugary syrups or juices. I loved the idea and quickly got to work in my kitchen to test it out.

Margaritas are my favorite, but they’re also a big offender when it comes to sugar, so I was determined to make a lower-calorie option that was still refreshing. I’m a big fan of fizz, so I picked up a pack of zero-calorie, zero-sugar LaCroix Sparkling Water in coconut and passionfruit flavors. (I wanted to mix things up a bit for some summertime flavor, so I opted out of buying lime.)

My experiment turned out to be absolutely delicious — so I decided to share the results with you.

Skinny Coconut Margarita Ingredients
1 shot tequila
1 cup coconut LaCroix
1 lime, cut into 4 wedges

Preparation

1. Pour tequila over a block of ice in a chilled tumbler.

2. Pour LaCroix on top of tequila and lightly stir.

3. Squeeze all four lime wedges into the cocktail and garnish with a sliver.

4. For best results, muddle your limes into the drink and let stand for a minute or two before serving.

The first time I made this drink, I made it a bit too strong — it’s easy to do with sparkling water being your base, so keep that in mind if you’re the type that is thinking, “Only one shot per drink?!” One of the best parts of this simple, DIY cocktail is that you can easily switch up the flavors with a different type of flavored-water base. So far I have only recreated this recipe using LaCroix passionfruit, but I already have my sights set on whipping up some mango-ritas!
