The ‘Ohina Short Film Showcase features a selection of films created by local independent film-makers — including pros, amateurs and students. Screenings take place at Doris Duke Theatre at Honolulu Museum of Art Aug. 14-16.

It kicks off with an opening-night reception — which includes beer, wine, pupus and a chance to chat with the filmmakers — from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14.

The films will be shown in two programs: Program One screens at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and 1 p.m. Aug. 15, and Program Two runs at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15 and 4 p.m. Aug. 16. It’s also got a Young Filmmakers’ Showcase at 11:10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Aug. 16 and a mashup of old and new ‘Ohina flicks at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

Films include The Fishing Club, which follows a group of friends as they attempt to stop development in their hometown, and Lahaina Noon, which depicts a series of interwoven vignettes.

All screenings cost $10 for general admission, or $8 for museum members.

ART BY DE FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE

Local nonprofit Rainbow Family 808 hosts a silent auction art show from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 8 at The ARTS at Marks Garage, featuring work by late artist De Chambs.

Rainbow Family supports houseless young adults, with a particular focus on LGBTQ youths. Funds raised at the event will go toward providing fresh fruits, vegetables and dairy products for the youth outreach program it supports. Any additional money raised will go toward establishing a youth shelter, which Rainbow Family hopes to help create in Honolulu within the next few years.

General admission is free, and VIP tickets cost $25.
