Letter From The Editor

Metro-120415-editorIf you don’t recognize the image on this week’s cover, its style probably at least feels a little familiar. The thick lines, the dreamy quality, the vibrant colors. It’s a painting by renowned surf artist Heather Brown, who lives and works on the North Shore, but whose influence extends throughout the world.

This week, we had the chance to visit Heather and her husband Chris Viverito at their North Shore home. I have to say, I was pretty jealous of their lives from the instant that I walked in. Chris also is an artist and they share a studio that looks like it was peeled off Pinterest — with handmade tables, lots of natural light, and a set of French doors that open up to a small patio overlooking the ocean.

But that envy didn’t last long when Heather divulged to me that, despite the picturesque setting and her beach-inspired artwork, she doesn’t just hang out in the water all day. She actually spends most of her days working straight from the morning to the evening. No wonder Heather has been so hugely successful. Read more about Heather’s impressive work ethic, her inspiration and her approach to art. (You can view more of her paintings there, too.)

And speaking of beautiful images, we are thrilled to be running an ongoing series by Nainoa Ciotti in our Snapshot section. See his latest here.
