Letter From The Editor

METRO-111315-editorOne of the things I love about winter in Hawaii is that in stead of unbearably freezing weather and piles of snow, we get marginally colder weather and big waves.

Recently, I had the chance to chat with surf photographer Zak Noyle, who currently is gearing up to shoot those waves throughout the season. He travels much of the year — but right now, he’s happy to be back home in Hawaii. Zak grew up in Kaimuki — and since has gained international recognition for his work.

For all of his accomplishments, he’s incredibly modest. (He didn’t even mention to me some of the significant things he’s done recently — I found out about his recent ad campaign with Apple, for instance, through his very proud father Ric Noyle, who also is a photographer.) Read more — and view some of his beautiful photos.

And undoubtedly the biggest thing to happen this week is that we’re welcoming back our tech columnist Christa Wittmier. Christa has been battling cancer — or kicking its butt, as it’s really more apt to say — since May. She’s now done with chemo and reports that she’s feeling better! Glad to have you back, Christa. Read her latest.

But Christa still has medical treatment to undergo — and to help her pay for it, Nextdoor hosts an official fundraiser, #CWStrong, starting at 8 p.m. Nov. 27. For additional details, visit nextdoorhi.com.
