Letter From The Editor

Metro-Christina-MugJust now as I sat down to write this, my coworker blurted out, “How is it December already?!” as she scheduled her first meeting of the new month.

It’s certainly hard to believe. In a lot of ways, the holiday season is all about giving. But on the flip side, it’s all about (over?) indulgence.

If you’re in the giving mood, check out an art show at Nextdoor Dec. 3, where you can find one-of-a-kind gifts while supporting local artists. The details are on Page 19.

Before you head to all of your holiday parties, don’t forget to read food writer Jaimie Kim’s Q&A with master sommelier Patrick Okubo (Page 16) for tips on how to give your hosts the right wine.

Also on Page 19, columnist Roger Bong reflects on the perils of overindulgence when it comes to music. He examines how changes in the way we access music affect the way we experience it. Bong urges us to really take the time to enjoy the music we listen to — a sentiment also applicable to the holidays in general.

Between shorter work weeks, friends and family visiting and holiday gatherings, this time of year gets so busy — but if we don’t take the time to enjoy it, what is the point?

After all, it will probably seem like no time has passed before we’re lamenting that another month already has gone by.
