THAI YELLOW CURRY
CHIANG MAI THAI CUISINE
2239 S. King St., Honolulu
Phone number (808) 941-1151

Curry is a delicate dish — if it’s too thin, it’s more like a soup, and if it’s too thick, it feels too heavy. Chiang Mai’s curries are perfectly creamy. Its Thai Yellow Curry comes with its signature yellow curry sauce, blended with coconut milk, potatoes and carrots, along with your choice of chicken or beef. Pair this with sticky rice — always go for the sticky rice — and you’re set. The restaurant’s other curry offerings include the standard green, red and massaman variations. Plus, there’s a range of other items: noodle and rice dishes, appetizers, as well as a whole section just for vegetarians.

BLUEBERRY CREAM CHEESE-STUFFED FRENCH TOAST
SWEET E’S CAFÉ
1006 Kapahulu Ave., Honolulu
Phone number (808) 737-7771

Sweet E’s always, always has a long wait (at least in our brunching experience), but we’ve never been less than completely satisfied after all’s said and done. The Blueberry Cream Cheese-stuffed French Toast is fat, sweet and decadent, though we recommend topping it with berries and maple syrup for the fullest sugary experience. It’s a complete meal in itself, but we like to mix things up with a partner and split the French toast … so you have room for Sweet E’s stellar eggs benedict — corned beef, in particular. Protip: Take advantage of Sweet E’s valet parking. Trust us, the convenience is worth the money.
