BEEF QUARTET
Le Bistro
5730 Kalanianaole Hwy., Hawaii Kai
Phone number (808) 373-7990

Asking us which part of Le Bistro’s Beef Quartet we liked best is just cruel. Did we like the filet mignon? The rib eye? The shortribs? The Kobe beef slider? Honestly, everything was amazing, but we’re probably going to give the edge to the rib eye. The meat was tender; the potato gratin was creamy and light. The shortribs are a close second, though. (If anything, we’re going to say the slider was surprisingly the most underwhelming of the four, even if the beef was mixed with foie gras.) Each portion is small but very filling, so don’t eat too many appetizers …

KYOHO GRAPE MOSCATO GELEE
LITTLE OVEN
1467 S. King St., Honolulu

First things first: If you want to eat at Little Oven, you’re going to need to follow it on Instagram @thelittleoven or find it on Facebook to keep abreast of its highly irregular operating hours (Friday and Saturday evenings only). Every weekend is a gamble (it was closed for two months straight at one point), but if you’re lucky, it’s well worth a trip. The dessert menu regularly changes, but we were able to eat this delectable gelee recently. Sweet grapes in sweeter moscato jelly (topped by apples and assorted berries) feel like a classy grownup’s dessert.
