AVOCADO & SPINACH BENEDICT

BOGART’S CAFE
3045 Monsarrat Ave.
Phone number (808) 739-0999

This may be a bold statement, but we are just going to come right out and say it: Bogart’s Cafe has maybe the best Eggs Benedict out there. The generously applied Hollandaise sauce is creamy without being too heavy, the two over easy eggs are just the right amount of runny, and instead of an English muffin, it’s all served on top of two slices of French bread. While the classic Benedict comes with ham, in an effort to feel better about eating all that Hollandaise, we opted to top it with avocado and spinach instead. It was a great decision. The spinach tastes fresh, and you really can’t go wrong with avocado, ever.

ROASTED LOCAL ORGANIC VEGGIES

SUSHI II
655 Keeaumoku St., Suite 109
Phone number (808) 942-5350

OK, this is admittedly a weird choice: Who goes to a top-notch sushi restaurant and wastes that precious stomach space on vegetables? But, trust us, you will not be sorry. Upon the first bite of a carrot, we did not believe it was a carrot at all. Perfectly grilled and lightly seasoned, these are veggies like you’ve never had them before. Our plate also was stocked with radishes, onions and potatoes, but we imagine that it must change based what is in season. That sauce you see on the side is a delicious ginger miso. The dish is a perfect complement to Sushi ii’s tasty, high-quality fish. Plus, right now, they’ve got some impressive seasonal fish on the menu — just ask the chefs for sashimi or nigiri utilizing any of those specials.

GREEN TEA TIRAMISU

KULU KULU
Ala Moana Center (inside of Shirokiya)
1450 Ala Moana Blvd. Honolulu
website kulukulucake.com

At this little patisserie in Shirokiya at Ala Moana Center (there’s another one in Waikiki at Eaton Square), it’s hard to choose just one from the case of tantalizing creations. So choose, like, four and include the Green Tea Tiramisu among your treats (it’s not overwhelmingly sweet, so you’ll still have room for ones that are). Tiramisu often can be too dry, but the slices of cake here are perfectly moist, pairing well with the sweet creamy layers in between. Be warned, through, that the green tea that tops the cake is bold — and could be a little much for some.

BRUNCH BURRITO

COFFEE TALK
3601 Waialae Ave. Kaimuki
Phone number (808) 737-7444
website coffeetalkhi.com

There is nothing better than waking up on a Saturday morning when you have nothing planned and can leisurely spend it any way you want. That feeling is made even better when you realize that you can go have Coffee Talk’s Brunch Burrito. Not on its regular menu, it’s often listed as a weekend special — but get there (semi) early, because they only have a limited amount. It’s loaded everything a good burrito should have: rice, eggs, potatoes, and is topped with homemade salsa and sour cream.
