Starting The Day Off Right


You can’t drink all day … if you don’t start in the morning.

When I first discovered coffee-flavored rum on a trip to Italy, I was smitten. It was smooth, rich and delicious — basically everything you could ever want in a liquor. So imagine my excitement when I found out Koloa Rum Company had partnered with Kauai Coffee Company to produce Kauai Coffee Rum right here in Hawaii.

“Our collaboration in developing Kauai Coffee Rum demonstrates the ongoing engagement within our local diversified agricultural industry,” states Koloa Rum Company CEO Bob Gunter in a press release. “We are proud to have this association with them.”

Launched in October 2015, Kauai Coffee Rum is a combination of Kauai Coffee’s locally grown dark roast with Koloa White Rum and pure Hawaiian cane sugar. The flavor is complex — filled with notes of coffee and cocoa — and it’s perfect to serve on the rocks or mixed in a cocktail.

As soon as I had a bottle in my possession, I began dreaming up what I could make. I landed on Not Your Everyday Iced Coffee and let me tell you, it was even better than I imagined!

You will need:

1 oz. Kauai Coffee Rum
1/2 oz. Bailey’s
1/2 oz. Kahlua
1/2 oz. whipped cream vodka
3 oz. coffee
1/2 oz. heavy cream Desired amount of ice
1. Pour ingredients into a shaker.
2. Mix well. 3. Pour over ice and serve.

A creamy concoction best sipped alongside a warm muffin or scone, it was the perfect combination of sweet and smooth. Don’t be fooled by the sweet taste — this drink is as strong as it is delicious!
