Winter’s Tale may not be the most famous of Shakespeare’s many plays — though you probably have heard its most memorable line: “Exit, pursued by bear” — but this story of kings and betrayal and love lost is still one of the Bard’s classics.

Eleanor Svaton directs Hawaii Shakespeare Festival’s interpretation of the play, which opens Friday (July 24) and runs until Aug. 2 at The ARTS at Marks Garage. The two-week run plays Wednesday-Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10-$20, depending on date.

The show stars Reb Beau Allen as King Leontes, Rachael Uyeno as Hermione and Joe Abraham as King Polixenes. Shakespeare’s famous tragedy Othello takes the stage in mid-August. For more information, visit www.hawaiishakes.org.

Expect a collision and collusion of all kinds of dance from all over the Asia-Pacific region at the Asia Pacific Dance Festival, running through July 27 at University of Hawaii at Manoa.

In addition to workshops and lessons, dance enthusiasts can look forward to a few more one-of-a-kind shows, including Churasa at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (July 23), where Okinawan folk arts takes center stage.

The festival closes out with Stories at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (July 25) and 2 p.m. Sunday (July 26), when Ballet Philippines, Oceania Dance Theatre and Halau I Ka Wekiu perform two programs about how dancing approaches the storytelling process (yup, things get pretty meta).

All shows will be held at Kennedy Theatre. Tickets cost $25. For more information, visit outreach.hawaii.edu/community/asiapacific.
