‘This Is the Only Place for Me' by Yoskay Yamamoto

‘This Is the Only Place for Me’ by Yoskay Yamamoto

You’ll be able to find — and buy — everything from wood sculptures to glass art to giant robots (in a manner of speaking) at Honolulu Museum of Art’s Spalding House during its nine-day #ArtShop event beginning Friday (June 19).

Each day spotlights a different medium, including painting, photography and ceramics, with demonstrations, docent-led tours, meet and greets, and more.

Our can’t-miss pick is Giant Robot Day June 20 — no, there aren’t any real giant robots involved, unfortunately, but the former Asian-American culture magazine now is an arts and pop culture-oriented store and gallery in California. Saturday features an 11 a.m. Talk Shop with Giant Robot founder Eric Nakamura and artists Luke Chueh and Rob Sato (who will present a painting and drawing demo at 1 p.m.), followed by a docent tour.

Plus, there’ll be a dozen new paintings on display from Yoskay Yamamoto (whose work you may have seen around town via POW! WOW! Hawaii in 2013), including this piece, This Is the Only Place for Me.

Saturday (June 20) is the last day for art lovers to check out Foursome, a group exhibit hosted at Chinatown’s Pegge Hopper Gallery.

Darius Homayounpour, Timothy P. Ojile, Roy Venters and Fae Yamaguchi will present pieces in various mediums for an eclectic mix of art — including this untitled mixed media canvas by Ojile.
