If pressed, I could probably tell you where I got everything in my closet — at least in terms of what store in the mall they came from. Beyond that, I admit that I know nothing about my clothing — not who made it, not even where it came from.

That seems to be a staple of our collective consumptive behavior, and that’s one of the things that local artists Solo-mon Enos and Marques Ha-nalei Marzan address in their exhibition, REBOOT: Fashion Futures, which is on display now at Ala Moana Center’s Fashion Annex.

And that is just one of the concepts that the exhibit explores. It’s at once a throwback to the past and a look forward. As Marzan says of his work: “The idea of ‘reboot’ is returning back to the original foundation. I am very much grounded in the fact that I try to maintain my connection with things of the past — either techniques or specific kinds of pairings of patterns, or different materials — but in new and relevant presentations or purposes.” For more read on here.

Oh, and while you’re at Ala Moana checking out the exhibit, you can also see what’s new at the newly revamped Foodland. Our food writer Jaimie Kim stopped in there earlier this week and she’s got good things to say (here).

Also in this issue, we talk about puppets (here) and have a drink at Tropics Tap House (here).
