Halloween On The Grid
In anticipation of Halloween coming up next Saturday, here’s a look at a few of the events taking place around town on Oct. 31.
MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL
AT HAWAII STATE ART MUSEUM
This annual bash begins at 5:30 p.m. at HiSAM as a street festival with food vendors and live entertainment. Then, the party continues at venues throughout Chinatown with Club Hallowbaloo: Bar 35, Nextdoor, Downbeat Lounge, The Manifest, Fresh Cafe, The ARTS At Marks Garage, Scarlet Honolulu and Square Barrels. Admission to HiSAM is $5, and tickets to Club Hallowbaloo cost $15-$20.

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN/ HIGHWAY TO HELL
AT SKY WAIKIKI/ TOP OF WAIKIKI
SKY Waikiki joins Top of Waikiki for Stairway To Heaven/Highway To Hell — and they’re giving out $5,000 cash to whoever arrives in the best Halloween costume, as judged by attendees and SKY Waikiki staff. (Second- and third-place winners will receive gift certificates to SKY Waikiki and Top of Waikiki, so if you lose, all is not lost.) The night also will feature DJs Toma and Zilla spinning music. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission costs $20.

HULAWEEN COSTUME CONTEST AND PARTY
AT HULA’S BAR AND LEI STAND
The theme this year at Hula’s Bar and Lei Stand’s HULAween Costume Contest and Party is “Comic Con,” and those dressed appropriately will have a chance to win their share of more than $2,000 in cash and prizes. Pre-sale tickets cost $20, and tables may be purchased for $150. HULAween is set to go from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

NIGHTMARE ON M STREET
AT WATERFRONT PLAZA
Stop in at M Nightclub’s annual Halloween block party for a night that pays tribute to slasher film great Wes Craven — creator of classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream, among others. The night goes from 9 p.m. till 4 a.m. and will recognize first-, second- and third- place winners in a costume contest. Admission is free until midnight.

COMICS COME ALIVE: HALLOWEEN AT THE HYATT
AT HYATT REGENCY WAIKIKI
Dressing up as a comic book hero or villain? Stop in at Halloween at the Hyatt from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. for a chance to win best costume (group or individual), which will get you $1,000 cash. The second-place winner gets a trip to Las Vegas for two. Throughout the night there also will be giveaways, games and music from DJs Pastrami, Debin, Graves and Massfunk.

HALLOWEEN BLOCK PARTY
AT GINZA NIGHTCLUB/THE DISTRICT
If you manage to make it through Halloween, and technically into Nov. 1, and you’re still looking for something to do, Ginza Nightclub and The District are teaming up to host a Star Wars-themed Halloween Block Party that goes until 4 a.m. Ginza will feature DJs Shift and Graves, while The District’s got DJs Hapa Boy, Min-One and Compose. Entry is free from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., or free all night if you’re coming from Halloween at the Hyatt.
