RAINBOW ROLL
GENKI SUSHI
Multiple locations

You might say that Genki Sushi and a Rainbow Roll are not exactly adventurous selections — and we’d say that you’d be wrong in both cases. There is a reason that Genki Sushi has managed to expand to include 13 restaurants statewide, and we were reminded of that on a recent visit. With an array of options going by on the conveyor belt, the Rainbow Roll is one selection that you can’t go wrong with. A crab mix and cucumber interior provide a nice base without overpowering the star of the show: the fresh avocado, salmon and ahi on top.

BREAKFAST BOMBER

Now that Kono’s has opened a second location in town, its Breakfast Bombers are no longer reserved only for trips to the North Shore. The Bombers — their name for their massive breakfast burritos — come packed with eggs, jack and cheddar cheese, seasoned Yukon Gold potatoes and are served with house salsa. From there, you also can choose what you want inside. We went with the version that has crispy bacon and, of course, the slow-roasted kalua pork that Kono’s is known for.
