CRABCAKE EGGS BENEDICT

CINNAMON’S RESTAURANT
315 Uluniu St., Kailua
Phone number (808) 261-8724

Can you tell we’re big fans of Eggs Benedict here at Metro? Cinnamon’s is quite a drive for the average townie, but when you’re beaching or hiking out on the Windward side, breakfast usually is in order, and Cinnamon’s might as well be where you stop. (And if you don’t want to drive to the original, you can visit Cinnamon’s in Waikiki at the Ilikai Hotel.) Crabcake sounds like a rich way to start your day, but it’s so light and flavorful and perfect with that Hollandaise sauce. Plus, we found a way around the guilt: Get a half order. You’re still full, and you get to feel like you’re being a responsible breakfaster.

SHIO RAMEN

KIWAMI RAMEN

Tucked away amid the slew of Keeaumoku Street eats, Kiwami Ramen is easy to miss. But that would be a shame. While Honolulu certainly has more than its fair share of ramen joints — with a number right within walking distance of this one — the noodles really are what set Kiwami apart. While we were at first skeptical of these unusual-looking noodles — they’re thinner than you’ll find in most other ramen — they immediately proved us wrong with their firm texture. The Shio Ramen comes with char siu, which is not as tender as you might hope, as well as green onions and bamboo shoots, which are a nice touch to neatly complement the mild broth.
