There’s nothing more comforting sometimes than, well, comfort food. Recently opened in Chinatown, Scratch Kitchen & Bake Shop boasts eats that are as flavorful as they are (for some dishes) explorations in southern-inspired cuisine. Breakfast items are available throughout the day, and savory dishes like Creole Shrimp n’ Grits, for instance, make the porridge-like dish, foreign to most locals, an instant favorite with rich flavors of butter and garlic. More into a sugar rush first thing in the morning? Order The Sivle (pictured), which features a griddled slice of banana bread topped with praline bacon, salted peanut gelato, caramelized bananas and dehydrated peanut butter. Seriously.

With omelets, crepes, waffles, pancakes and specials like Loco Moco, French Toast and Eggs Benedict, Eggs ‘n Things is a breakfast haven. Plus, the eatery, which has three locations, (on Piikoi Street, Saratoga Road and Kalakaua Avenue) has been on a creative spree lately. It has recently introduced a number of new items like Spam Fries (pictured), which were inspired by the restaurant’s participation in the annual Spam Jam. Everyone, this is important: It’s Spam prepared as fries. It’s genius. So get in there and try them now. Just be careful because they’re expectedly addictive. Eggs ‘n Things recently also launched its exclusive line of bottled water.
