DAYLIGHT

Local nonprofit PA‘I Foundation hosted the Kakaako Arts & Makahiki Fest last month at Mother Waldron Park in Kakaako. The event celebrated the season of Lono, a time ancient Hawaiians would set aside each year for harvesting and games. Traditionally, the season lasted from mid-November through late January or February and included feasting, chanting, dancing and more. In this modern iteration, attendees were treated to various food vendors, live entertainment and cultural demonstrations. There also were traditional makahiki games.
