Beachside Boozin’

Metro-051316-Barkeep

If someone can tell me what is better than a beach bar, then the next round is on me. The combination of salty air, refreshing drinks and optimal views of the sunset get me every single time, which is why The Barefoot Bar attached to Hale Koa (2055 Kalia Road) is a must.

After a long day on the beach, I was looking to move to the bar. So I grabbed a seat at The Barefoot Bar, which is open from 10 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. The shorefront views are unbeatable, there’s live music most nights, and prices are reasonable, including big military discounts.

I wanted something sweet and refreshing, so my waitress suggested the Li Hing Mui Margarita (pictured), a delicious twist on the traditional margarita that’s accented with Li hing mui powder. I was hoping for a strong punch of tequila and a sour aftertaste. The result was even better than expected — a strong pour from the bartender and just the right amount of lime and Li hing sour. I actually ordered two rounds of these, because I couldn’t get enough. If you like Sour Patch Kids, this drink is for you!

I had gotten my fill of refreshing drinks and wanted something a little stronger for my final round. I went with the Koala Bear, a blend of Bailey’s, Kahlua, coconut and cream. All I can say about this one is that given a larger glass, it could have been serious trouble. I could have easily thrown back two or three more, because it was THAT GOOD.

Whether you’re searching for a cold beer or colorful cocktail, The Barefoot Bar has you covered.
